Blocked or sagging gutters

Typical urgency: Plan a repair

Gutters are the cheapest part of a roof to maintain and the most expensive to ignore. Once a run is blocked or has dropped off its fall, water spills down the wall instead of into the downpipe — and wet walls turn into internal damp.

How it's normally fixed

Clearing and flushing the run, re-levelling brackets to restore the fall, and replacing any split or distorted sections. A cheap job compared with treating damp inside the house.

Common questions

How often should gutters be cleared in Scotland?

Once a year is a sensible baseline, and twice a year where there are overhanging trees. Aerial photographs make it easy to see whether a clear-out is actually needed before you pay for one.

Can a drone survey check gutters?

Yes — looking straight down into the channel is one of the things a drone does much better than a ladder inspection from one corner of the house.
