AI catches a lot, but every experienced roofer or surveyor spots things a model will not — and the manual defect tool is how those get onto the report. Until now, adding one meant typing the name, picking a category and severity, and writing the description and recommendation from scratch. That is fine at a desk and painful on a phone in a van. So we have rebuilt it around a quick-fill library.
What changed
- The quick-fill list has grown from 11 presets to 119, covering the defects that actually appear on Scottish roofs.
- Presets are now grouped into three visible sections — Pitched roofs, Flat roofs, and Commercial / industrial — so you tap a tab and scroll a short, relevant list instead of one long dropdown.
- Picking a preset fills the defect name, category, severity, description and recommended action in one tap.
- Every field stays editable before you save, so the wording always reads like your report, not ours.
Built for commercial work too
The new Commercial / industrial section pairs with the commercial analysis profile we added recently. It includes the findings that matter on corrugated and sheeted roofs — sheet corrosion and impact damage, failed laps and fixings, fragile or cracked rooflights, possible asbestos cement, gutter and flashing defects, vent and penetration problems, edge protection and debris build-up. Safety notes on fragile roofs and suspected asbestos are written into the relevant presets, so the caution makes it onto the client report without you retyping it every time.
Why it matters on a job
The review step is where a report becomes yours. Faster manual defects mean you are more likely to record the marginal call — the lifted flashing edge, the early lap corrosion — instead of deciding it is not worth the typing. More complete findings, same impartial grading, and the report still carries your branding, not ours.
